Founders

In the 1990s, chemical engineer Obbo Hazewinkel laid the foundation for what today forms the core of OBBOTEC. In his laboratory, he developed groundbreaking techniques such as the dissolution technique and third-generation pyrolysis and hydrocracking technology. Obbo conducted countless tests and refined his innovations to find a sustainable solution for waste processing. Unfortunately, he passed away before his vision could fully come to fruition, but his legacy lives on in the technologies and in the company OBBOTEC.

In 2018, his son Sander Hazewinkel, together with Diederik Jaspers and Wouter van Neerbos, decided to bring these innovations to market and founded OBBOTEC. What started as an R&D lab has since grown into fully operational pilot plants at Plant One Rotterdam. Here, the technologies developed by Obbo, such as SPEX and HydroCat, are further refined and applied to realize sustainable recycling solutions.

Thanks to founders Sander, Diederik, and Wouter, and the work of the technical team, OBBOTEC continues to be a pioneer in innovative recycling methods, contributing to the circular economy with a focus on sustainable hydrocarbon processing and waste minimization.
